OUTSIDE PROJECT and CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES OF ART

Center for International Studies of Art is a non-proffit, non-governmental organization based in Belgrade, Serbia, founded with the task to realize and promote the programs of student, expert and cultural exchange. The Center is the organizer of the Outside Project, an exchange program in the field of art education, currently taking place in Belgrade and Florence. The task of the Outside Project is the creation of a unique trans-national program of study in a functional cultural / educational network of several European cities.

The project includes direct collaboration with institutions of art education, galleries and cultural centers. Since 2002, the Outside programs have received support from the Serbian Ministry of Culture, the City of Florence - Department for Public Education, the City of Belgrade - Culture Department, Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade and other governmental and non-governmental entities. The Outside Project has included a production of significant exhibition projects and pubblishing. The Center is a member of ENCATC (European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centers) since November 2005.

The Outside Project has been for the past several years an opportunity for many students to experience dinamic art study programs in culturally diverse environments. Recently, the importance of this experience has been given a special recognition: a Protocol signed by the Cities of Belgrade and Florence, as well as by universities / academies from both cities. The aim of this Protocol is to facilitate the students participation, stimulate the expert involvement and allow the general development of the project. Please, read more about the Protocol in the News section of this website.

The Center for International Studies of Arts expresses gratitude to all institutions and individuals who have given their contribution to the development of the Outside Project.

OUTSIDE PROJECT MISSION

With the Outside Project we wish to emphasize an exceptional importance of art as a method for creating bridges of creative communication on international level. It is the task of art education programs to explore and endorse those qualities. Art is essentially an expression of freedom, a freedom which is sometimes needed in order to abandon the traditions that divide, so that we may willingly see ourselves through the eyes of the other.
