Conference: May 22, at 2pm, District Cultural Center WEST, an on-going project by the Florentine group Kinkaleri, has been presented at the District Cultural Center (Museum of Applied Arts) in Belgrade. The project has been developed in 12 Euroean and world capitals since 2001. A video projection presented as part of the Outside 07 showed an edited series of segments. Members of the group, Marco Mazzoni, Massimo Conti and Luca Camilletti held a talk on their work May 22 at District.
WEST consists in 12 distinct moments recorded in chosen locatons (Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Bruxelles, London, Madrid, New York, Paris, Prague, Rome, Tokyo, Vienna, Beijing). Each video recording shows accidental passer-byes in a staged act of falling dead in front of the camera (“as a dead body falls”) while the life of the city continues its uninterrupted motion. WEST is the cultural occident spreading and transforming geographic and political borders.
Kinkaleri is a group of artists that includes: Matteo Bambi, Luca Camilletti, Massimo Conti, Marco Mazzoni, Gina Monaco, Cristina Rizzo) whose range of work covers theater, installation, video. Their participation in the Outside Project was a result of collaboraton with Maria Antonia Rinaldi, art historian and critic from Florence.
