Interior Design
The Interior Design Course aims to give theoretical and practical inputs to students' knowledge and experience in furniture and industrial design. During the semester students will approach technical drawing, material technology and develop projects in small groups or individually. Historical and contemporary aspects of design will be presented in the course. The program includes the development and planning of both industrial and small scale projects, with the use of adequate instruments to design and to realize an idea. Particular attention will be given to the process of Eco-design (sustainable design, responsible project, or ecological design) an innovating planning approach that considers the environment and other planning inputs (technological, functional, esthetical, economical and social aspects..), as well as to Trash Design, an artistic-artisan approach consisting in the use of the found materials and objects, and in the re-use of their components. This course intends to stimulate new ways of thinking Interior Design with an ecological approach by presenting the contemporary scene of Eco-design, in its evolution and its revolution, and represent the latest design movements of the new millennium.
Subjects : History of design / Introduction to Interior and Industrial design / Design and Eco-design methodology / Geometrical and technical drawings / Colour and graphic techniques / Materials and their technology / Model Building.
Method : Lectures and slides presentation, creation of a prototype, individual portfolio presentation.
Other activities : participation in fairs, exhibitions, encounter with designers and experts, practical experiences in external industries (according to requests and possibilities).
Francesca Armand / Biography
Francesca Armand in association with Ivo Wachter established their practice, W&A in Florence, Italy in 1999. After the graduation in 1996, she worked in London by Yuly Toh Architect. Her professional work embraces many aspects of architecural planning: from private housing to schools and pubblic spaces, according to the sustainable aspects of design which is important issues of our time. The practice runs many international competitions; in 2003 gained third qualification for planning a school building and special housing placed in Bolzano, Italy. Currently the architects are working on a "Wintergarten" for a private house in Bolzano, Italy. Francesca Armand has frequently lectured to Italian and US students and held conferences on architecture and interior design.
